Connecting worlds: Bridging the Gap Between UX Designers and Enterprise Architects
This program is tentative and subject to change.
Context: Organisations aiming at providing excellent user experience (UX) demand enterprise architects to gain precise understanding of requirements outlined by user journey maps. Studies show UX designers and enterprise architects work in separate departments and use disjointed languages. Providing common user journey concepts for UX designers and enterprise architects fosters a closer alignment of organisations’ IT architecture to user demands.
Objectives: i) formalise user journeys maps by providing the main concepts’ definitions, metamodel, and graphical notation for user journeys, and ii) aligning ArchiMate - an enterprise architecture modelling language - with user journey maps by providing a cross-layer metamodel and application scenarios.
Method: We conduct a design science research method to elicit requirements from existing theories, expert interviews, and a case study.
Result: We provide formalised user journey maps and cross-layer metamodel validated validated by means of a technical action research method with UX designers and enterprise architects from a real organisation. Conclusion: UX designers and enterprise architects perceived our contribution to be useful and valuable means for collaboration and support of daily operations.
